JC Christensen is the director of operations at Morning Star
Fiber. He spent 15 years as a youth pastor before joining the
family business with his mother Karen Christensen in 2006. He
graduated from the University of Toledo where he played football
and obtained a degree in Commercial Recreation. He is married
and has 7 children and runs a small farm of Icelandic Sheep in
Apple Creek, Ohio. With an eye for art and creative mind JC has
been instrumental in developing unique yarns and other products
for MSF.
JC was the co-founder of Paca to Product in 2006 which
started as an event to create better partnerships with local
farmers and the mill. His desire for Morning Star Fiber is to be
known locally and globally in the exotic natural fiber world as
the hub for connecting farmers, processors, artisans, and
end-users in redemptive ways, through their manufacturing,
education, retail and networking.
JC’s talk will focus on 7 areas of evaluating fiber to determine its best value added step. You simply can’t take any raw fiber to the same product and expect the same quality. But each fiber based on its properties will suggest which products it is best suited for. This will help you learn how to evaluate your fiber and how its properties will respond in various value-added steps in milling.
